To developmental psychologists, adaptation is a key concept that describes how we grow, change, and learn. To adapt
means:
1. to use what we have already learned to meet the demands of new
situations and 2. to learn new things and modify our behaviors and
activities to meet new demands. Therefore, adaptation allows us
to gradually build up a repertoire of behaviors and capabilities. This
is also the treatment philosophy of the ADDapt program--learning
healthier, more adaptive behaviors through psycho-education.
